Culture Company announces £200,000 Individual Artists’ Award

Culture Company 2013 has announced a £200,000 fund to support individual artists based in Northern Ireland who wish to create projects as part of Derry~Londonderry’s City of Culture celebrations in 2013. The deadline has been extended until 17 September.

The Individual Artists’ Scheme has been made possible by funding by DCAL to City of Culture 2013 and devised in response to consultations held with individual artists. The scheme aims to facilitate individual artists in undertaking new project art works which interpret, stimulate and emphasise the core themes of City of Culture – ‘Joyous Celebration’ and ‘Purposeful Enquiry’ – or tell a new story about Derry~Londonderry as a city in transition to a local, national and international audience. It is anticipated that individual awards will range up to £15,000 unless the selection panel considers there to be an exceptional case.

Eligibility

The Individual Artists’ Award is aimed at individual artists who are based in Northern Ireland and who have realised a body of work. It is unlikely that an artist who has not completed at least four professional pieces of work will be supported through the initiative. The awards are available for individual artists only. All artworks must reflect the Core Themes of City of Culture 2013 or tell a new story about Derry~Londonderry, a city in transition.

Undergraduate students may not apply. Postgraduate students must clearly demonstrate that they are able to undertake their study at the same time as completing an award piece and that there is no duplication between the two proposed programmes.
