BPW is a charitable company limited by guarantee, established in 1977 to welcome artists interested in the practice and promotion of the art of printmaking.
As a membership-focused atelier, BPW provides a fully equipped and purpose-built studio with year-round access for a capacity of 100 artists.
BPW offers an extensive programme of practical courses, alongside open studios and demonstrations, designed to enhance public knowledge, understanding and appreciation of printmaking. BPW also provides opportunities for residencies, exhibitions, skills and professional advancement, to support the income, wellbeing and livelihood of its artists and the communities they work with.
To champion traditional and experimental approaches to printmaking, our approach develops printmakers as inspirational and exciting innovators and secures printmaking as a fine-art process in the contemporary art scene on an international scale.
To provide equipment and encourage the use of a variety of printmaking techniques, to ensure a sustainable, professional and creative working environment and to open this to anyone wishing to participate and learn about printmaking as a contemporary art form.
The three priority values are:
- Artistic Quality: We are a dedicated atelier studio striving to achieve high standards; a platform for artists with diverse print outcomes.
- Membership Advocacy: At BPW we work with our artists and audiences to make a creative impression and a meaningful contribution to the visual arts. By actively listening to our members and involving the groups we work with, we provide a true reflection of our artists and promote the organisation as a contemporary advocate for printmaking.
- Professional Advancement: Our resources strategically prioritise opportunities for professional development, to provide training, exhibiting and event opportunities for artists to develop their careers, to advance our links with the artistic community and to establish ambassadors across the field of printmaking.
