Memories, Dreams and Reflections – 17 Dec

The exhibition is a culmination of over a year of very successful beginner’s oil painting classes in Studio 2. Nineteen people from all different ages and backgrounds came together; nearly all of them were exploring the medium of oil painting for the first time. Over the year with the help of local artist and painting tutor Tommy Long they have been able to create some fantastic pieces working with just the three primary colours. From all ages and abilities the artists worked hard to develop their skills and create their own unique style. Each artist has created a work that will give the audience a glimpse of their own memories, dreams and reflections.

Tommy Long is the local Artist in Residence at Studio 2. Born in Derry City in 1984, Tommy studied at the university of ulster in Belfast and graduated in 2009 winning both the Rise creatives prize and the Carson McDowell award for painting. He has exhibited both locally and regionally. In 2016 he exhibited in the mall galleries in London as a finalist in the prestigious Lynn Stainers prize for painting. Tommy now spends his time teaching painting classes in the local community whilst pursuing a career as a professional artist.
