You are invited to join Community Arts Partnership, Beyond Skin, Making Music and representatives from Make Music Day UK on Friday 25 January in Belfast to hear about Make Music Day 2019.
It’s for anyone – musicians, music groups, arts organisations, venues, businesses – interested in turning Make Music Day into something huge in Northern Ireland! There will be an opportunity to hear about previous Make Music Days and plans for 2019, discuss ways to get involved, network and form partnerships.
Make Music Day takes place in over 120 countries on 21 June annually. Started in France in 1982 as Fête de la Musique, this DIY festival and celebration of music is open to anyone to perform or organise an event. Events, in venues and public spaces (from town squares to libraries, bandstands to school halls, pubs to train stations), are free to attend.
On 21 June 2018 (only year 2 of a co-ordinated effort to bring Make Music Day to the UK) 558 free performances took place across the UK, reaching audiences of almost 50,000 people. 13 performances took place in Northern Ireland in several schools, a hospice and an arts centre. Check out the MMD website for images and video from this summer. Download the 2018 evaluation report here.
