Recreational Engagement Programme

Have you a hobby or sporting idea you’ve always wanted to try?

Part of a recreational group that is looking to grow?

Then we have the opportunity for you!

We have an exciting new opening to set up or scale up fun activities in seven areas across Antrim and Newtownabbey. This is your chance to kick start that hobby you’ve always wanted to be part of or build on an activity that you’re already doing. The choices are endless! It could be a craft circle, ladies football, dog walking group, or kayaking club, so if you have an idea this is the perfect time to try it!

Over the course of this FREE programme there will be trainers and mentors to help you get started. You will be supported to create an action plan to run the activity and gain a qualification in Active Leadership. There is the opportunity to access to up to £2,500 to support your group in setting up your first event and some materials or equipment needed for the activity.

No experience is required! We are currently signing up enthusiastic groups of people aged 18+ to commit to a programme being delivered between April and September 2019. We’re looking for between 15-20 people from each area to take part.

We will work with you to schedule the workshops in line with your groups’ availability. We can fit in with your regular meeting time or set up a dedicated slot. We want you to get the most out of what’s on offer:

  • Leadership & planning workshops (12 sessions) & mentoring workshops (6 sessions):
Workshop series designed for you to gain the skills needed to turn an activity into something everyone can enjoy.
  • A community activity:
Time to go live with your activity, invite others and see your hard work pay off.
  • A celebration event for all:
Meet the other groups involved, share your experience and celebrate achievements.

To register your group or to talk about this opportunity further contact Helen Di Duca: helen@wheelworks.org.uk call 02890 244 063.

Areas are classified by District Electoral Areas (DEAs): Airport, Antrim, Ballyclare, Dunsilly, Glengormley, Macedon and Three Mile Water. The project is being delivered by WheelWorks in partnership with Antrim and Newtownabbey Council. This is part of a £3.2 million project supported by the European Union’s PEACE IV Programme, managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
