Internationally renowned artist, author and Professor, Liz Rideal, will visit Elmfield Institute in Gilford, Northern Ireland, to take people through a 2-day journey of self-discovery.
What does it mean to be seen in a world obsessed by public image? Our persona is at once everything and nothing. This workshop is produced by Elmfield and is seeking to explore what it means to genuinely listen to oneself and to others around us. How does it feel to be truly witnessed by another? And how can more effective and sustainable ways of behaving be instigated as a result? Often we present a modified version of ourselves to the ‘outside world’, in order to make the perfect Instagram or Facebook post. Reality TV feeds our need to create a flawless persona. But what does it feel like to drop this mask and reveal a more authentic self?
This 2-day workshop, on the 16th and 17th August is full of creative and exciting new ways to discover aspects of ourselves that are perhaps dormant yet dominant.
The workshop, Mapping the Self, is a fantastic way to spend time this summer in the tranquil and beautiful surroundings of Elmfield, away from the digital online world. Over a Friday and Saturday, simple materials such as paper, pencil, paints, photography and coloured markers will be used, and through this Liz will help to us to explore ourselves from different perspectives. It is a way to reveal parts of ourselves in playful and fun way.
This is not a workshop designed to improve artistic merit and as such no specific artistic techniques are required, instead it is a place where freedom of expression is invited and encouraged!
Why not come along and experience this unique workshop, all while relaxing in the newly renovated courtyard and grounds at Elmfield.
