Exhibition – Mervyn Marshall – Dead Time – 1 to 25 Aug

Dead Time, is the name given to the period of time between sugar harvests when Cuba sees a rise in unemployment and workers return to the cities.

Demonstrating the remarkable resilience and adaptable nature of the Cuban people, this series attempts to capture this sense of time; as its spent, killed or simply lost. Each photograph, accompanied by a small description, tells the story of life as it is.

Two men rip up a cobblestone street in Old Trinidad. An old man counts his pension on a bustling Havana street. Through each image, I wanted to portray the languid pace and moods of a life spent in anticipation of what is to come and what has already been forgotten.
