R-Space Gallery is a visual arts and cultural space, presenting and commissioning a programme of exhibitions and arts based activity based in The Linen Rooms, in the heart of Lisburn’s Historic Quarter.  Our programme encourages participation and engagement with local and international artists, promoting visual art, contemporary craft and a variety of art forms, including community arts collaboration.  This is underpinned by our contemporary ground floor gallery / workshop / creative space located within a listed heritage building.  Our ambition is to restore further aspects of this characterful building to expand our creative offering and enhance our organisational sustainability.

Meetings take place at R-Space Gallery, 32 Castle Street, Lisburn, BT27 4XE.

Description of Duties

The role of the Board is to set the strategic direction for the organisation and support the team involved in delivery of current and new programme activity, set in the context of good corporate governance and promotion of the objects of R-Space Gallery as a registered charity – CCNI No106350.
The Board wish to recruit additional Board members to help drive a new phase of growth based on our Mission Statement; ‘R-Space Gallery is an innovative charity that fosters arts, culture and heritage to enhance the wellbeing, education and fulfilment of all’.

Profile of candidates sought (knowledge, skills and experience) 

R-Space Gallery is seeking new Trustees who can help motivate and enable individuals and volunteers to see how their efforts can contribute to the overall vision for the charity ‘To be a welcoming pro-active space in Lisburn City, delivering valuable and fulfilling creative and cultural experiences for all’.
Trustees can bring attributes and gain experience in any of the following areas;
For example:

  • Business / Professional or Administrative / Financial experience
  • Awareness of Corporate Governance and / or Project Management
  • Interest in Arts / Culture / Heritage and /or Community Engagement
  • Confidence to represent R-Space ethos and enjoy social networking

Opportunity to develop personal and professional experience of 3rd Sector

Approx. Time Commitment 
Board meetings are bi-monthly, mostly evenings, lasting approximately 2.5 hours. Choice of Sub-Group participation that meet generally quarterly.
The Board would particularly welcome Trustee approaches from women and from people with experience in the fields of finance, funding and marketing.
