Admired, idolised, exploited: celebrities spark our imagination, awake obsessions with their talent and beauty, and stir feelings of jealousy. Who do they belong to, and can they exist when the curtain closes and the cameras are turned off? The NI Opera Studio presents a double bill of 18th-century musical drama that explores fame as a timeless phenomenon with music by Jean Philippe Rameau, Nicola Porpora, Johann Adolph Hasse, Giovanni Bononcini, and Leonardo Vinci.
This event is part of the Portico Comedy Arts Festival and is supported by Ards and North Down Council.
An hour of fun theatre! (…) The lyrics are easy to follow, the connecting dialogue is full of mirth, and at one point Macarena dance moves add to the sense of farce. Props fly, bubbles are blown, tea is well and truly spilt, and the plot zig zags with increasing speedy twists and turns towards its will-they-won’t-they conclusion.
