The “Words Alive” writing group has just released a new booklet of work called “YOUR STORY AND MINE”
“Words Alive” is a creative writing group that meets in South Belfast on a weekly basis. Supported by the Engage With Age charity, and funded by the Public Health Agency, Words Alive’s members are older people who write poems, stories, and recollections of their past. Each month group members visit local nursing homes and sheltered accommodation to give readings and encourage people to read and write.
Over the past 6 months ‘Words Alive’ has been collecting stories and recollections for their new booklet.
‘Your Story And Mine’ is a touching collection of short stories and memories collected from individuals from various day care centres and housing schemes.
The memories recollected in the booklet include tales of first dances, going to the pictures on a Saturday morning, baking bread, and dancing on the stage of Belfast’s Grand Opera House. Creative writing and reading is an important way of stimulating the mind and increasing social contact. It is also proven to help alleviate stress and improve a person’s well-being.
