MONDAYS

New Visual Arts Reading Group

10.30am to 11.30am

We’re delighted to introduce our new online weekly visual arts inspired Reading Round led by Brian McAvera, celebrated playwright, art historian, critic and curator. Within this themed reading round the emphasis will be on the visual arts. This will include essays, reviews and book excerpts, covering different art periods and different national attitudes to art history and criticism. Each week you will listen to the texts read by Brian, which are then discussed at length by the group. There is no preparatory reading or homework. Guided by Brian you will consider the text in detail, looking at tone, choice of words, viewpoint, the effect of a certain image or turn of phrase, etc.

The sessions will last one hour and places are limited! Email info@gtgallery.co.uk marking it ‘Visual Arts Reading Round’ to sign-up.

TUESDAYS

GTG Artists Present

A new series of online exhibitions, thanks to funding from Community Foundation NI. Over the next months the GTG will be inviting Northern Ireland based artists to create a new digital exhibition of some of their past work with the GTG online on our website and social media channels. We’re delighted that our first artist is photographic artist Victoria J. Dean – she has created a new digital presentation of works from her project ‘The Illusion of Purpose’. Watch it on our website, or for a subtitled version watch on our GTG YouTube channel.

THURSDAYS

GTG Curators Discuss…

The Golden Thread Gallery curatorial team, Director Peter Richards and Exhibitions Officer Mary Stevens, are discussing the processes involved in exhibition making in the Gallery, via recorded Zoom chats. This is an exciting opportunity to gain insight into GTG’s process of building a programme of contemporary visual art in Belfast. New chats are recorded weekly, so if you are an artist, student or curator and have a question you’d like Peter and Mary to consider, please email us at info@gtgallery.co.uk or leave a comment on Twitter.
