Seacourt Print Workshop – Autumn Courses

Seacourt Print Workshop offers a range of printmaking courses to everyone from beginners, intermediate and professional artists. Book a workshop from £30 for a chance to create your own magic at our Bangor premises.

 

GENERAL PRINTMAKING

This introduction to printmaking will give you a grounding in printmaking techniques, including drypoint, collagraph, monoprints and salt etch. There is plenty of space for experimentation and you will have tuition tailored to your individual needs. 

We also give you an overview of general life in the print studio so it is the perfect track to membership. 

 

INTRODUCTION TO SCREEN PRINTING

This is a great introduction to screen printing and perfect for those wanting to develop their skills with this versatile process. 

It’s great for those wanting to take up membership at Seacourt. You will learn the process of creating a hand drawn and hand cut stencil screen print and by the end of the course you will know each stage of the process and how the studio works.

 

COLLAGRAPH

Merve Jones is the go to guy at Seacourt for advice about collagraph. This is a very versatile printmaking process where materials can be applied to the surface of the cardboard plate as relief or cut into plate and inked up as intaglio. Starting from your drawing this course will lead you through the various stages of preparing a plate to creating your finished prints. Merve will show you the plates he has made over the years – a wealth of inspiration and technique tips.

 

INTRODUCTION TO TEXTILE SCREEN PRINTING

Susan Robinson will take you through every step of the process of screen printing on textiles. You’ll learn about the dyes used, creating screens, overlaying colours and fixing the designs. You’ll go home with some bespoke fabric samples.

 

PAINTERLY SCREEN PRINTING ON TEXTILES

  • Thursday 8th October, 7pm – 9pm
  • Saturday 10th October, 10am – 4pm

This is a free and fun technique to create unique textile prints. `in the first session you will learn how to create your screen using free hand painted marks. In the second session you print, experimenting with colour and overlays. You’ll go home with some unique textile samples.

 

ABSTRACT TEA TOWEL ART TEXTILE PRINTING

Create a unique Irish Linen tea towel artwork. Using a range of geometric patterns you’ll learn how to print on linen, overlying colours and building up unique abstract designs. After a bit of experimenting you’ll move on to print on a linen tea towel creating a piece to frame or to use.

 

DISCHARGE PRINTING ON TEXTILES-PRINT A SCARF

Discharge printing is a process were marks on fabric are made by applying an agent that removes some or all of the dye leaving behind a pattern. In this course you’ll learn the steps of this versatile process and you’ll go home with a unique printed scarf to gift or to keep.

 

PHOTO INTAGLIO

  • Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th November
  • 10am to 4pm
  • 3 places

  • Suitable for: Beginners

A piece of original artwork (photograph, drawing, collage) is reproduced onto transparent or translucent film or paper and then exposed onto a light sensitive plate. The emulsion on the plate hardens where it is exposed and the softer areas are eaten away and will become the recesses which will hold the ink. Participants should bring a photographic or hand drawn image from which their plate will be prepared.

 

CYANOTYPE

  • Saturday 7th November
  • 10.30am – 12.30pm

  • Suitable for: Beginners

Cyanotype is a photographic printing process that produces a unique cyan-blue print. Using foliage and found objects you’ll learn how to make prints on paper and fabric. We’ll provide some foliage but do bring some objects you’d like to use to print with. You’ll take away a final piece.

 

TEXTILE PRINTING WITH HEAT REACTIVE DYES

  • Suitable for: Beginners

Try out some textile printing using heat reactive dyes. You’ll learn how to use the heat press to produce designs on fabric. This technique uses heat reactive dyes and by painting colours, lines and using foliage you will make unique patterns that will make a beautiful take home piece.

We’ll cover everything that we’d cover in our weekly intro or advanced course depending on your specific needs. One to One sessions are great if you want to explore a particular project and perfect if you want to build your confidence on the track to membership.

ONE TO ONE LETTERPRESS

We can offer a bespoke one to one session to introduce you to letterpress or if you know the basics to refresh your skills or help you develop them. Jessica will share examples of her work, discuss layout and scale and teach you the processes of set up, printing, layering and printing.

 

SWITCH OFF SUNDAYS FOR WELLBEING

Mindfulness & Mono printing with Plants

  • Suitable for: Beginners

Take some ‘time out’ to decompress with us at Seacourt. This session begins with a relaxing twenty minute guided mindfulness meditation on nature. You’ll be guided through mono printing processes using plants and botanicals to create unique prints.

This method of direct printing improves wellbeing while harnessing your creativity to lift your mood. The magic comes when the blankets on the press are pulled back and you see the results!
