You are invited to come up with an idea for an event and apply to present it as part of the forthcoming Imagine! Belfast Festival of Ideas & Politics. During 22-28 March we will provide a high quality showcase for new ideas on politics, culture and activism in Northern Ireland. We hope to encourage the participation of under-represented groups in political/cultural debate and to stimulate reflection and debate on issues that are often excluded from our local political discourse.
The Call for Ideas is intended to give the whole community a part in shaping the festival, from suggesting speakers to directly creating and delivering events. Although we can’t run with every proposal, we promise to look seriously at every suggestion and come back to you with a reasoned response.
You will need to complete the Event Submission Form – see link below – and the festival would like your ideas as soon as possible but the final deadline will be 5pm on 20 November 2020.
At this stage we expect to have over 120 events in our programme with contingencies in place to deliver many of these online in the event of a spike in Coronavirus infections. We hope to examine the impact of Covid 19 on the anniversary of the first UK lockdown on 23 March and issues relating to national identity on the centenary of the founding of Northern Ireland using the strapline of ‘Looking at the state we’re in’. Other themes will include climate change, racism & Black Lives Matter, faith & politics, Brexit, the future of civic activism and participative democracy.
