Reopening – All Daughters | Sharon Canning – to 8 Oct

Ards Arts Centre is pleased to reopen to the public again, following a six-month closure due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sharon Canning’s exhibition, ALL DAUGHTERS, opened in the Sunburst Gallery in March but then closed when the building was temporarily closed to the public.

The Centre is delighted to give visitors a second chance to visit this beautiful exhibition when we reopen from Monday 28 September.

As nearly 1.2 million children are trafficked in South-East Asia every year, Sharon’s work intends to encapsulate the trauma these strong girls have been subjected to, but also the hope that safe work and security can bring. Abstract and minimalistic, using careful and refined palettes and mark-making to convey the emotional experiences, Sharon’s work delicately and tastefully communicates each girls testimony. Working closely with ‘Hope and Light Jewellery’, each painting will be accompanied with a piece of jewellery made by the individual and a small extract from their story

“These are real stories, of real women. The are not pieces of art, they are stories of a broken world”. – Sharon Canning
