‘Lovers Rock’ plus discussion – 25 Mar

As part of the Imagine Belfast festival, watch a screening of Sir Steve McQueen’s Small Axe film ‘Lovers Rock’ plus a discussion after the film with Lori Gatsi-Barnett (JoinHer Network), Johanna Leech (Strand Arts Centre), Esther Andare (Golden Thread Gallery) and a special guest.

In 2020 McQueen released Small Axe, a collection of five films documenting stories of hard-won victories in the face of racism and love letters to black resilience and triumph in London’s West Indian community 1960-1980s. The title references a proverb – “If you are the big tree, we are the small axe” – that was popularised by Bob Marley in his 1973 song “Small Axe”.
