‘Spéirbhean’ – 12 and 13 Mar

Tháinig Holywood Shared Town agus Quotidian le chéile le scannán uaillmhianach spreagúil a choimisiúnú le linn na dianghlasála. Cuimsíonn Spéirbhean litríocht, damhsa agus scannánaíocht. Is í Myra Zepf an t-údar, údar iomráiteach a bhfuil neart duaiseanna bainte aici. Rinne Clara Kerr an chóiréagrafaíocht, ealaíontóir óg atá ag teacht chun cinn agus a dhéanann damhsa ann fosta. Tá Jo Guthrie, stiúrthóir agus dearthóir a bhfuil duaiseanna bainte aici, ag stiúradh an scannáin agus á chur in eagar.

Léirítear i Spéirbhean, a bhfuil foireann de chailíní is de mhná idir 8 agus 80 bliain d’aois ann, an dóigh a dtig le mná idir óg agus aosta a bheith sásta lena gcorp. Déantar machnamh sa scannán ar smaointe agus a mhothúcháin na mban trí ghluaiseacht agus tugtar léargas tuisceanach áthasach ar na hathruithe dosheachanta fisiceacha agus mothúchánacha a tharlaíonn le himeacht ama.

Agus í ag scríobh an focal labhartha don phíosa, rinne Myra iniúchadh ar an chodarsnacht idir saol inmheánach na mban agus a saol poiblí, rud atá leanúnach ar feadh a saoil. “Bhí mé ag iarraidh ár n-eispéaras coiteann mar atá soghontacht a nochtadh go hionraic agus le ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar an fhíorshaol. Léiríodh dúinn le linn na dianghlasála gur cheart a bheith cineálta linn féin agus le daoine eile. Ceanglaíodh ár saol poiblí agus príobháideach le chéile ar bhealach a éilíonn ionracas. Tá mé chomh sásta go seolfar an scannán sa tseachtain chéanna le Lá Idirnáisiúnta na mBan – ár ról a bheas ann sa chomhrá domhanda faoi mhná agus a dteacht aniar.”

Léireofar an scannán ocht mbomaite den chéad uair i bpáirtíocht leis An Chultúrlann ar Facebook agus YouTube mar chuid den fhéile, Seachtain na Gaeilge, Dé hAoine 12 Márta ar 7pm.

Beidh deis ann fosta, dul “ar chúl an stáitse” agus ceisteanna a chur ar an fhoireann chruthaitheach, an léiritheoir, Aisling McElroy, san áireamh.

Is féidir clárú don imeacht bheo seo, a thitfidh amach Dé Sathairn an 13ú Márta ar 11rn, ar an nasc seo.

Holywood Shared Town and Quotidian join forces to commission an ambitious and inspiring film during lockdown. The piece combines literature, dance and filmmaking. It is written by the distinguished multi award-winning author, Myra Zepf (in Irish, with translation). The choreography is by the young emerging artist Clara Kerr who also dances in the piece. Jo Guthrie, an award-winning director and designer, is directing and editing the piece.

With a cast of women and girls aged 8 to 80, the film, entitled ‘Entity’, or ‘Spéirbhean’ in Irish, illustrates how women of all ages can rejoice in the lifecycle of their bodies. The film reflects on women’s thoughts and feelings through movement, with a sensitive and joyful look at the inescapable physical and emotional changes that time brings.

In writing the spoken word element of the collaboration, Myra explored the duality of women’s inner and outer worlds, something which remains constant throughout their lives. “I wanted to lift the veil to look with integrity at our shared experience of vulnerability and to celebrate the beauty of that real, lived narrative. Lockdown, if it has taught us anything, has shown the need for gentleness with ourselves and each other. It has merged our public and private worlds in a way that demands honesty. I’m so glad this film will premiere in the week of International Women’s Day – it can be our contribution to a global conversation about women and resilience.”

The short eight-minute film is having its premiere in partnership with An Chultúrlann as part of the Irish Language Week Festival on Friday 12th March at 7pm, on both Facebook and YouTube.

There is also a chance to ‘meet the makers’, put questions to the creative team including its producer Aisling McElroy, the backroom engine behind the film.
