Open Call for Artists – The Great Kit Challenge 2021, Top Floor Art – closing 9 Apr

This is an Open Call for artists, designers, makers and interested amateurs to come up with an idea for a creative kit, design it, get it to the prototype stage, make it and receive feedback from a buyer.

  • Application deadline – 9/4/2021
  • A decision by – 15/4/2021

Do you have a great idea for a creative kit?

The Great Kit Challenge is a project designed to help you pull your idea into reality. Successful applicants will go through a staged process to develop their idea and bring it to a point where they can sell and receive feedback from a buyer. The project will culminate in an exhibition of the work at Top Floor Art Gallery in August 2021

There are two categories for applicants.

  1. For individuals who wish to develop a creative kit for sale to the public. If you are successful in your application you can claim a small budget for materials and R&D (max. £50)

  2. For makers who wish to develop a free creative kit for a voluntary or community group. We have set aside a small number of places for those who have identified a community they think would benefit from the design of a creative kit and online workshop. Again successful applicants can claim a small budget for materials and R&D (max. £100).

Your creative kit idea can be on any theme, and in any medium but you will have to show you have thought about practical application, cost, accessibility and sustainability. You will also need to have an Instagram or Facebook profile and be willing to receive feedback via zoom or a similar online platform.

Top Floor Art is delighted that Sophie Rochester, founder of Yodomo, the marketplace for making, will join our expert panel and provide invaluable feedback to our participants on their creative journey. Find out more about Sophie and Craft NI’s maker support here

This opportunity is currently open to applicants who live in Northern Ireland.

The deadline for receipt of applications is: 9 April 2021
