The Books Beyond Boundaries NI project aims to generate new literary voices from underrepresented groups into speculative fiction (sci-fi, horror, fantasy).
This is a completely free workshop: sessions are two hours long, one evening a week (participants may choose between the Tuesday or Thursday workshop), starting on the week beginning 6th September 2021.
At the end of the workshop, participants will be invited to submit to a creative writing anthology which will be launched and showcased throughout the island.
Writers of colour, ethnic minorities, and indigenous groups are invited to attend the programme, where they will receive professional mentorship from literary experts on how to master their creative voice.
Through imagining the future, we believe that we can create a more inclusive today.
The workshop is designed to be as inclusive as possible, however it may not be suitable for very young children. We would therefore recommend the age group to be 16+.
Northern Ireland and Ireland are famous for speculative fiction, yet there are very few writers of colour, ethnic minorities, or indigenous peoples in our literature.
We seek to change that.
Octavia Butler once said “All that you touch, you change. All that you change, changes you.”
Dates: 7th September – 12th November 2021
