BOUNCE ARTS FESTIVAL 2021 – 1 to 3 Oct

Bounce Arts Festival has become that ‘atypical’ arts festival in the annual calendar of events in Northern Ireland. Bounce is still the only festival that is solely dedicated to the celebration and showcasing of art created by d/Deaf, disabled and Neurodiverse creatives regionally.

Bounce is blossoming and maturing in its ninth year. From its modest beginnings in 2012, initiated by our late CEO Chris Ledger, it continues to draw the most exceptional artists from across these islands and beyond. This year we are pushing geographic boundaries, as, for the first time, we are bouncing some events to Derry~Londonderry.

The programme brings together a dynamic mix of performance, workshops, music, dance, visual arts and lots of fun from the 1st to 3rd of October 2021. It is exciting to have live events back again; however, you can also take part virtually.

Bounce has a reputation for exceptional, provocative, and disarming programming and this year we bring you brand new commissioned performances by incredible local artists Alice McCullough, Helen Hall and Sinéad O’Donnell. There are many ‘must see’ events including Poised! by the fabulous Drag Syndrome at the Black Box, Segments by Declan Byrne at the Atypical Gallery, and Robin G Shiels at Havelock House.

Integral to our festival is accessibility – we aim to make our events as accessible as possible to D/deaf and disabled audience members. Access requirements – including captions, audio description and British and Irish Sign Language – can be booked in advance through our website.

Bounce does not happen in isolation and depends on the contributions of many; including the team at University of Atypical, the artists, workshop leaders, technicians and our venue partners in Belfast and Derry~Londonderry. This year we are delighted to welcome observers from the arts and disability sectors from Portugal, Slovenia, Croatia and Germany. We thank them for their input to Bounce!

We also thank our primary funders, the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, Department for Communities, and Belfast City Council; it is only with their support in backing our vision that we can make this important and unique festival a reality.

And finally, thank you – our audience. We know you will find something to tickle your interest in the Bounce 2021 programme and hope that your experience is enjoyable, memorable and fun. Don’t forget to use the hashtag #Bounce2021 on Twitter and Instagram!
