Tea Time, Tea Towels and Tea Dances – Group show at R-Space Gallery – 30 Oct to 26 Nov

Tea is the most widely consumed drink in the world, the paraphernalia surrounding its preparation and consumption is immense. R-Space presents a selection of items surrounding this wonderful beverage.

Five artists / makers based in Northern Ireland at different career stages, working in a variety of media, were selected from an open call for this exhibition titled Teatime:

  • Amanda Croft
  • Fiona Jiandani
  • Paul Mulgrew
  • Millie Moore
  • Pamela Walker

The selected artists responding to the theme ‘Teatime’ will exhibit work that includes collage, photography, short film, and textiles.

R-Space received a large response to this open call and the quality of the submissions was exceptional. The Gallery has also invited these artists to present their work during the exhibition and included items for sale in our online shop. This work includes embroidery, ceramics, cyanotype, sculpture and painting.

R-Space will also be hosting an alternative tea dance for local and international community groups, funded by Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council Arts Grants, to run alongside the exhibition. If your group would like to get involved please contact Mags at rspacelisburn@gmail.com.

About R-Space Gallery

R Space is a visual arts and crafts space, presenting and commissioning a programme of exhibitions and arts activity based in The Linen Rooms in the heart of the City of Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

R Space’s ambition is to increase access, understanding and enjoyment of contemporary visual arts, crafts, design and other related arts activities. About The Artists

Amanda Croft is an art historian, specialising in twentieth century and contemporary Irish art who has worked within the creative sector and as a lecturer for over thirty-five years. She also conducts gallery tours, writes critical reviews and curates exhibitions.

Fiona Jiandani is a photographer and Art and Design lecturer at Belfast Metropolitan College. She has exhibited in the Royal Ulster Academy 2019 and has work currently on display as part of Making the Futures Exhibition Oct, 2021 in the Ulster Museum.

Paul Mulgrew is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice includes filmmaking, digital media, creative writing and print. He recently wrote and directed the short film, Tea, which was selected as part of the BBC ‘2 Minute Masterpiece’ series. He is also on the board of directors for the annual Imagine Festival.

Millie Moore is an award winning artist based locally in Banbridge. Her work is held in collections in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Ulster University. Her cross-disciplinary practice traverses from painting to textiles, using many plant products in her processes.

Pamela Walker is a multimedia artist who uses an eclectic mixture of materials and techniques to create artworks in a variety of media. She works primarily with materials which are old, unloved and discarded . By recycling and altering these neglected items they are reborn whilst being used to make important commentaries on local, global, social and political issues.
