wbu? – workshops and film – 14 and 21 Oct

A health and wellbeing drama programme developing creative resilience

Taster workshops – 14th & 21st October, 7-9pm, Old Museum, Belfast

If you have an interested group we may be able to arrange a home based workshop

In a fun, safe workshop environment participants’ will be supported to get active, develop their drama skills, self-confidence, and creative openness. Working alongside professional artists, they will seek creative solutions for communicating key health and wellbeing messages to their peers through a short film.

Every KIC workshop starts with fun, high-energy theatre games that help participants relax and feel comfortable in their bodies. Physical theatre techniques used by KIC encourage participants to play, connect with their bodies, work in teams, develop trust and confidence. Encouraging participants to get active increases both physical and mental well-being.

With the expert support of Suicide Awareness & Support Group, participants will be given an opportunity, guided when necessary, to talk about what affects their mental health and wellbeing. Sharing experiences and ideas with other participants facing similar issues/concerns will help the young people feel more connected and in control of their lives.

Participants will be encouraged to take ownership of this project from start to finish. They will feel a shared ownership and control over the film they produce, developed from their ideas, their idiom, and focused on making a positive social impact and creating change.

This physical theatre programme will engage participants in exploring/understanding how the mind and body is connected: through a high energy, youth friendly creative approach they will explore and experience how physical activity, and healthy choices, impact on energy levels and the ability to focus and achieve their potential.
