Lord Mayor visits Belfast Exposed Gallery

Belfast Exposed was delighted to welcome Councillor Kate Nicholl, Lord Mayor of Belfast, who visited the exhibition ‘The Default is White’ by photographic artist Sheila Chakravarti, on Thursday 18th November. The exhibition includes photographic portraits and written word in which Chakravarti illuminates the lived experience of immigrants of colour who come to make Northern Ireland their home. Through creating the work, she uncovered her experience of racism was not isolated, but rather it is suffered by many universally.

The Lord Mayor was given a tour of the exhibition by Sheila Chakravarti, and had the opportunity to meet some of the participants of the project, whose lived experiences have been documented and showcased in the exhibition.

‘The Default is White’ continues at Belfast Exposed until Saturday 27th November.
