We were on our way to something – Leontia Haldenby and Kim Montgomery – 1 to 31 Mar

We were on our way to something is a visualisation of dual autobiographies of fine and applied graduates Leontia Haldenby and Kim Montgomery from 2004-present, documenting their parallel visual journeys  of what came after art college across fine art media including drawing, college, sculpture and found objects.

Self portraits of young womanhood imagined and real.
2 female visual artists explore and construct narratives of self through personal and shared popular cultural experience, place and time.

Initiated by a curiosity of constructing a reunion or catch up through visual art, starting where they left off as UU Fine & Applied Arts graduates in 2004, they are interested in reflecting on memory and finding and constructing self, using amongst popular cultural reference points music from their respective young womanhood as a vehicle to transport memory.

For example, revisiting the music they listened to through the 2000s, using imagination towards constructing self identity, then and now.

The mutual dreamscape of New York City exists for both artists as a motif of aspiration and freedom and serves as a reflector of self identity and emergence.  Contrasting who they were then and who they are now.
