Looking for a Home, a Place to call our Own, a Place where we can be Alone – 16 June to 14 Aug

Looking for a Home, a Place to call our Own, a Place where we can be Alone with Patrick Hickey With refreshments and music.

This exhibition features work artist Patrick Hickey has been creating over the past three years as a part of his practice-based PhD at Ulster University, Belfast. The exhibition explores queer Irish identity and masculinity through the exploration of the nude male figure in a fantasy version of the Irish landscape. Queer people have often been relegated to the margins of history, Art History especially, and their rights have been denied on the island of Ireland until recently. The goal of Hickey’s paintings and research is to bring forth these hidden figures, and place them in a fictionalised version of Ireland that depicts a mysterious island of refuge where they are free from intolerant and bigoted rhetoric.

Venue: Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiach, 216 Falls Rd, Belfast
Dates: 16/06/22-14/08/22
