Opportunity – Workshops – The Gallery Season 2

The Gallery

The Gallery is an Artichoke project creating a new contemporary gallery in the public realm using billboards across the 4 nations of the UK. The Project will produce two seasons of work a year commissioned from artists for display on paper and digital billboards. Season one (Straight White Male) took place across July-August 2022, and season two (The state we’re in) is scheduled for January – February 2023.

We’re seeking creative facilitators or organisations to partner with us to run a number of workshops throughout Northern Ireland.

Facilitators must be comfortable working with young people and have experience in facilitating across visual arts mediums. If you’re interested in running some of these workshops with a group you are already working with or a group we’ve connected with, please contact us

More information and apply: https://thegallery.org.uk/open-call-for-artists/.

We’re looking for organisations who may have an established working relationship with a group of young people and would be interested in us running workshops with them. This can be done with facilitators who you might already work with, or we can use facilitators we’ve connected with to run the workshops.

We’re interested in working with young people from lower socio-economic backgrounds, D/deaf and disabled, those living in isolated areas. We don’t have to prioritize any particular group but ideally, we’re working with young people from at least one of these. However, we’re open to discuss other groups you may already be working with who do not sit within these guidelines.

The final outcome will be a practical one with the young people creating a piece of artwork in response to the theme of The Gallery, Season 2. The artwork they create may then be uploaded to the Artichoke website as part of a public gallery for The Gallery Season 2. In order to create context around the piece they’re creating, suggested content for the workshops could be:

  • A discussion around art in the public realm and the various forms it can come in e.g., Activism art, billboard advertising, public service announcements etc
  • Reflect on some key artworks from Season 1 and discuss theme for Season 2.

  • Explore different methods to create work (Graphic Design/Digital, Collage, illustration etc)
  • Creation of art responding to theme of Season 2 (The state we’re in)

On agreement.
Travel, materials, planning and facilitation costs all covered.
