Join Belfast Exposed from 18:00 on Thursday 8th December for a combined book launch & artist talk by Tuk Goh, as he discusses his work Together.
Together is a poignant collection of images showing staff from Northern Ireland’s South Eastern Trust as they worked against the odds to treat and reassure patients at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Originally from Malaysia, Goh graduated from Queen’s University, Belfast in Medicine in 1985. A keen photographer, he took a break from practising medicine for several years to work in commercial photography and he continued to take both wedding & portrait photographs, as well as to build his own artistic profile, after returning to medicine.
Goh sees parallels between medicine and photography – particularly in the need for an eye for detail and to be interested in people – and his medical background gives him a unique perspective on this emotive subject matter in particular.
Speaking about his work to the Belfast Telegraph in 2020, Goh stated “I think this [the pandemic] is a once-in-a-lifetime event. And I think that the hospital itself would like to document this looking back in a pictorial form. So I think it’s important that we have this as proof of what’s happened for future generations to come.”
