The Echo Echo Festival of Dance and Movement – 27 Jan to 11 Feb

This year Echo Echo has focused on the work of local artists and long term collaborators from further afield.

Echo Echo Ensemble artists Kelly Quigley, Zoe Ramsey, Ayesha Mailey and Tonya Sheina are all involved in the creation of new works that include lots of local people of all ages. Maria Svensson is finishing making and will show her new, intergenerational, work “Painting the Canvas” , which has been in development for quite a while.

Emily Welther returns again to derry, this time with a new work in collaboration with musician Daniel Brandl developed into a live show from a fantastic online work made during the pandemic. Sighile Hennessy presents her solo work “Out There” after its great reception at the Sibikwa festival of “inclusive dance” in South Africa last October. She’s joined in a double bill of solo works by Cindy Cummings, who brings her many years of experience to a fresh work made especially for the Echo Echo Festival. Finally the festival closes with a third visit to our festival by Nic Garreiss. He’s brought his light, expressive and heart touching dancing to the festival before with the band “This is How We Fly” and with a solo piece. This time he is joined by master musician Ultan O’Brien.

There will also be an exhibition of dynamic and richly layered paintings by Sash Ka Shiels and Jacinta O’Reilly in our gallery space, and a public talk by the artists.

As well as public performances at Echo Echo Studios there is a programme of schools performances and public workshops
