Chinese Brushwork Painting – 13 May

Tutor: Paul King

In this workshop discover the art of Chinese Brush Painting by using simple and effortless brush strokes to depict the essence of a figure or scene, an ancient art that continues to fascinate contemporary artists. A distinguishing feature of Chinese Brush Painting is that each brushstroke is a defining move that is not changed or corrected.

This class is suitable for absolute beginners, teens and adults. Also participants from the previous workshop on this subject can attend this workshop. Learn about and use the materials and techniques of this ancient and incredible painting art form. Learn and practice the xieyi/freehand ink painting technique on xuan/rice paper.

Paul will demonstrate some of the basic painting techniques which the participants will practice and then the participants will be shown how to paint various subjects such as horses, birds, and fish.

Participants will use the traditional Chinese art painting materials such as Chinese paintbrushes, Chinese watercolour paints, ink sticks, ink stones and rice paper. These will be provided for you.

Please bring watercolour paints, in tubes, and a watercolour paper pad to this class.
