Are you creative? Whether you are a professional or someone that’s passionate about creative practices as a pastime we want to hear from you. Down Community Arts along with Down Arts Centre is launching an initiative to map creative talents across Newry Mourne and Down. Newry Mourne and Down has a wealth of creative talent. However, at present there isn’t the infrastructure in place to connect, share ideas, and recognise the talent we have on our doorstep.
The collaboration between Down Community Arts and Down Arts Centre will seek to connect the dots and compile a ‘Directory of Creatives’ with a vision of increasing and enhancing opportunities for people with a creative passion. Speaking about the collaboration Down Community Arts Project Manager Philip Campbell said ‘We want to gain an understanding of what’s out there and encourage people from all creative backgrounds to get in touch with us. At this point, we want to simply gather information on all the creative people and groups around us and with that knowledge start to look at ways in how we can work together.’
‘Working together both organisations have created a questionnaire to determine how the creative environment in Newry Mourne and Down can be best supported’ Lizzie Devlin, Arts Development Officer, Arts Council of Northern Ireland, added, “This is a terrific initiative being undertaken by Down Community Arts with Down Arts Centre which will inevitably lead to increased visibility, opportunities and collaboration between artists and arts organisations in the Newry, Mourne and areas. Well done to all involved.”
Registering with the Creative Directory is a simple process, simply contact either Down Community Arts or Down Arts Centre to access the questionnaire. Contact philip@downcommunityarts.org or downartscentre@nmandd.org for further information.
