Wednesdays 4 Oct – 1 Nov
Lisburn had a rich association with linen production which included thread making. On the site of Island Arts Centre once stood Island Spinning Company, responsible for flax spinning and thread making. With this class we will go back in time to discover the housewife’s pocket, something that was once an everyday item for women, the predecessor of the handbag. The original pocket was worn around the waist, under the skirt, and was simple or expensive and elaborate. Influenced by this historical item we will create a cross body bag, made from linen and decorated with embroidery. Your finished bag can be worn or perhaps hung in the home as a decorative item, maybe for storage.
All materials will be provided but please bring along some small scissors.
