Exhibition continues to 2 November 2024. Paul Murray is an emerging visual artist living and working in Letterkenny, County Donegal.
He works primarily in Watercolour and Acrylic. His work is precise and straight edged. Organised into repetitive geometric abstract patterns or grids. Each expressive mark is contented within its own calculated boundary. The creation of each piece is laborious by design as the action of ‘work’ forms the foundation stone of his practice. Paul’s work is continually evolving.
In this ambitious exhibition Paul’s work has moved in a conceptual/methodology based direction. This exhibition aims to prioritise and reclaim the viewer-artwork interaction. On average a gallery visitor spends on average between 15 – 30 seconds viewing any single art work. Increasingly visitors view art via their smartphone camera, detracting from a genuine cultural experience. It is the artists objective to disrupt the status quo. Asking you the viewer to forego photographing this work. Emphasising an in-person viewing experience. Paul invites visitors to be present while engaging with the artwork. Developing your own personal connection with the artworks. You the viewer are part of the artwork. The development of a number of works in this Exhibition have been funded by the Arts Council of Ireland
