Butterfly Effect is inspired by the real-life stories of young people and ex-offenders that have been impacted by prison, addiction and struggles with their mental health. The play follows six characters from their school days through to the present day, exploring why they made the choices that led to them serving time in jail and how they might have made different decisions or accessed support.
Spanner in the Works Theatre Company’s new production explores how trauma, lack of opportunity, and a lack of resources can influence young people’s choices. How do we take care of each other and ourselves in a world where the odds can seem stacked against us? How do we change or recover from choices that have led us onto difficult paths?
Butterfly Effect is written and directed by award-winning playwright Patricia Downey.
