Opening for Late Night Art in East on the 14th November in Connswater Shopping Centre.
This show will be part of Platforms new free walking tour, which takes place every second Thursday of the month. Here we guide the audience around various participating galleries showcasing their latest exhibitions, creative events and workshops. There is also the opportunity to meet and hear from the exhibiting artists and organisers. ECHO Anna Marie Savage Juste Bernotaite Latisha Reihill ECHO is an exhibition which brings together three abstract painters, Anna Marie Savage, Latisha Reihill and Juste Bernotaite.
A core thread that weaves through each of their work is the exploration of past histories and personal memories where each artist brings their own individual response. This exhibition explores how each artist echoes their current painting practice but yet manages to intertwine all of their approaches. As three contemporary abstract female painters they all rely on the importance of experimentation and the exploratory relationship of paint. Anna Marie Savage’s practice is concerned with identity, ranging from the personal through to the cultural and political sometimes albeit in a romanticized, reminiscent concept and preservation- the land; its historical reference; its language; its culture, and its ecology. Juste Bernotaite explores the complex history of Lithuania, her homeland and navigates her relationship to its landscapes.
History and personal memories are brought to the present, reflected in textured surfaces, heavy layers of paint and fluid chaotic brushstrokes. Latisha Reihill creates textured abstract paintings inspired and influenced by the qualities and histories of buildings and natural landscapes and the artist’s response to them. The paintings, with a variety of mark making, colour and moods mirrors the different memories they hold, as the stories are visually retold, peeling back layers of trauma, and adding playful anecdotes.
