The release of ‘A Field of Flowers’, created through the Belfast Music Heritage Programme, “Routes from our Roots!”

The Belfast-inspired arrangement and song reflects Belfast musicians’ journeys via their communities’ traditional routes. It includes reinterpretations of Irish folk, Belfast marching band and Brazilian, Indian and Mediterranean worlds in Belfast.

Beat Carnival’s long relationships with cultural and community groups Beyond Skin and Shankill Road Defenders Flute Band and with Irish Trad musicians, enabled meaningful exploration of identity, heritage and the technical challenges of making music together.
Thanks to all the musicians, George Sloan at Half Bap Studios and film maker Will Films for capturing this performance of ‘A Field of Flowers’.

The music programme, supported by Belfast City Council, strengthened and validated Beat Carnival’s purpose to create community expression, collaboration and celebration in ways that are culturally inclusive. Hopefully this will be a big step to more journeys together.
