The Belfast Ensemble is a non-profit music-theatre company that produces award-winning work of scale and excellence for audiences in Belfast and beyond. With an emphasis on ensemble practice and new music, we stage highly ambitious premieres of contemporary classical music across the diverse fields of theatre/opera, movement, work for young audiences and live digital/multimedia. Founded in 2017, we have employed over 500 Belfast artists and received both national and international acclaim
Recent activity saw our first European tour, a collaboration with Russian punk band Pussy Riot and our national symphony orchestra, a new work with playwright Mark Ravenhill at the Lyric Theatre, a concert with Marc Almond at the Grand Opera House as part of the Belfast International Festival and presentations of Abomination at the Southbank Centre London, Abbey Theatre Dublin and Brighton Festival.
The Ensemble was founded by Artistic Director, Conor Mitchell who is a multi-award-winning composer, librettist and stage director. This past year we have appointed a Company Manager for the first time and have been working closely with an Executive Consultant on strategically developing company structures, partnerships and plans. We have moved into The Crescent Arts Centre and are about to embark on recruiting new trustees.
We are now looking to appoint a dynamic and experienced Executive Producer to embed our work and practise sustainably, develop new partnerships and touring opportunities and deliver our artistic ambitions locally, nationally and internationally. This is an exciting time to join the Ensemble where future plans include a major tour of a newly commissioned opera, a new music-theatre premiere and collaborations with London’s Southbank Centre through to 2028.
