Cad a fheiceann an spéir | Ką mato dangus | What the sky sees by Juste Bernotaite – 20 mar (Launch) to 1 May

“Trí úsáid a bhaint as an mheán traidisiúnta péintéireacht ola, bhí sé mar aidhm agam iniúchadh a dhéanamh ar an nasc domhain idir talamh, tráma, agus cuimhne, trí shraith de phictiúir ar scála mór. Ag tarraingt ar thaighde fairsing ar mo thír dhúchais sa Liotuáin, téann an saothar i ngleic le tionchar mothúchánach agus fisiceach na coimhlinte ar an tírdhreach.”
Úsáidtear grianghraif phearsanta de Klaipeda (Memel), réigiún atá ceangailte go stairiúil le féiniúlachtaí náisiúnta iolracha, chun scéalta amhairc a chruthú
a chuimsíonn brón, caillteanas, agus stair nár réitíodh go fóill. Úsáideann an t-ealaíontóir íomhánna luibheolaíocha chun athléimneacht agus leigheas an dúlra a léiriú, ag iarraidh orainn machnamh a dhéanamh ar naisc phearsanta leis an talamh agus a stair.
Is ealaíontóir comhaimseartha í Juste Bernotaite a bhfuil a cleachtas dírithe air
théamaí tráma, féiniúlachta agus cuimhne. Díríonn a cuid saothair ar an ghaol casta
idir an grá, an caillteanas agus an foréigean, ag tabhairt dúshlán don lucht féachana aghaidh a thabhairt ar oidhreacht mhothúchánach na staire agus í ag leagan béime ar an mhisneach a theastaíonn chun leigheas uaidh.

What The Sky Sees is an exhibition of new works by the artist Juste Bernotaite.

“Using traditional medium of oil painting I wanted to explore the intersection of land, trauma, and memory through a series of large-scale paintings. Drawing from extensive research into my homeland Lithuania, the work delves into the emotional and physical
impact of conflict on the landscape”.
Personal photographs of Klaipeda (Memel), a region historically tied to multiple national identities, are used to create visual narratives that embody grief, loss, and unresolved histories. The artist utilizes botanical imagery to symbolize nature’s resilience and healing, while inviting reflection on personal connections to the land and its
history.
Juste Bernotaite is a contemporary painter whose practice centres on themes of trauma, identity, and memory. Her work examines the complex intersection of love, loss, and violence, challenging viewers to confront the emotional legacies of history and the courage required to heal from them.
