Thin Place – where the veil between the physical and the transcendental appears permeable or “thin”. Peatlands (bogs) are considered to have this special characteristic where there is a connection between the material and the numinous.
Bob Speer’s unique work includes material taken from bogs across Ireland and uses commercial paints and discarded household fabrics. The work evokes ethereal abstracted landscapes and moments that speak to the ancient and the contemporary without conflict.
His paintings are visual representations of that mystical space between our tangible world and the unseen world.
