In this exhibition, Belfast based artist Jonathan Conlon will present a series of large-scale figurative/portrait works in oils. Drawing on digitally mediated existences, Conlon engages both familiar and unfamiliar subjects to challenge perceptions about how we view one another.
Using digital collage and distorted camera film, Conlon will compose and obstruct the viewer’s gaze. The enhanced scale and muted palette further distance the subject from their observer. Audiences will be invited to reflect on their own experiences of knowing and belonging, both online and offline.
Jonathan Conlon, BA Fine Art Ulster University Belfast, is a current studio member of Queen Street Studios.
