Larne Museum and Arts Centre is sharpening its pencils and inking its pens in preparation for its upcoming celebration of literary heritage event – which will explore the current vibrancy of literature and look towards the future of writing in Larne.
Mid and East Antrim Borough Council’s Heritage team in Larne have been working with local writers, historians, podcasters and broadcast journalists to develop the literature celebration event which is set to take place on Saturday, 17 May 2025, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm.
With local representatives Mark Haggan and Murry McDowell, taking on the roles of compere and quiz master respectfully, the afternoon will also include a series of special readings from local authors including; Morna Croft, Stephen Gordon, Linda Hooke, Ian Hooper, Dr. David Hume, Thomas Jobling, Angeline King, and Jim Shields.
Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Alderman William McCaughey said, “It is fantastic to see the wealth of local representation in the literary world lending their part in this event.
“Indeed, it is exactly what the Larne Museum and Arts Centre was originally built for – housing the Carnegie Free Library – which has been a home to literature since 1906.
“I would warmly encourage anyone with an interest in writing or reading to come along to this free event and learn more about Larne’s literary legacy.”
