Landmarks project update

Community Arts Partnership’s Landmarks Public Art Programme was enriched greatly by the inclusion of The Strabane LGBT this year. Landmarks coordinator Clare McComish commented on the generosity of spirit shown by project manager Gina Gallagher. Gina worked closely with project artist Brenda Graham and garnered a small but dedicated group to produce fantastic relief wall mosaics for the centre. Participants incorporated casts to create a series of very unique mosaics pictured below. The group showcased the finished artwork at a special exhibition launch last Friday.

Speaking at the launch project manager Gina Gallagher said:

The group wanted to have a physical piece of art in the centre that would communicate the highs and lows of being LGBT in Strabane. One piece represents judgement, gossiping and discrimination towards LGBT people depicting an “all seeing” eye and gesturing hands created. The other piece represents a more accepting and positive attitude towards LGBT and an ideal society for all. Both pieces were created using mosaic and sculpture. The group thoroughly enjoyed participating in the project and really appreciated the support from Brenda.
