The ARC is a shared community arts resource centre

Belfast’s newest cradle of creativity

It has been New Belfast Community Arts Initiative t/a Community Arts Partnership’s long-held intention to develop a dedicated multi-purpose community arts centre in heart of Belfast city centre. Since 2003, CAP and others have sought the development of a physical space, where the additional benefits of concentrating and clustering creative and socially-economic activity can multiply the capacity of the organisation and see more significant and crucially sustainable creative development emerge.

Community Arts Partnership believes that the creation of a multi-purpose community arts centre will considerably enhance the cultural life of the area, but it would also benefit communities, visitors and the city as a whole. Such development would:

  • develop cultural product within Northern Ireland
  • increase opportunities for participation in and access the arts, especially for the marginalised
  • increase opportunities to develop skills level within the workforce across all sectors, including the arts and creative industries
  • increase work opportunities in the arts
  • bring all sections of the community together through the arts
  • use the arts as a tool to assist in the regeneration of Belfast city and promote the city as a cultural tourist destination
  • significantly enhance the sustainability of Community Arts Partnership, the lead agency in the delivery of community arts in the region
  • offer a new, small scale, performance venue
