We are extremely excited to announce that the ‘towering wildfire’ performance poet Tony Walsh AKA ‘Longfella’, will be making a guest appearance at the Poetry in Motion launch event and will also be launching his new work SEX, LOVE & ROCK & ROLL. So expect a rip roaring event that will both move you and amuse you!
“Some poets can make you laugh, a few can make you cry but only a handful can do both. By all accounts, Tony Walsh is one such poet. Splitting your sides and breaking your heart? Be warned – this guy should come with a health warning!” Glastonbury Festival.
Tony Walsh, Longfella, is ‘one of the UK’s most renowned performance poets.’ His work has been published in the UK, USA and Russia, commissioned by BBC television and radio, and showcased at prestigious poetry festivals including Ledbury, StAnza and Strokestown (2013). He has performed at the Palace of Science and Culture in Warsaw; as part of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s 50th anniversary celebrations; and as website Poet in Residence for the world-renowned Glastonbury Festival.
The launch event will take place on Thursday 2nd May at the Golden Thread Gallery, Great Patrick Street, Belfast at 8.30pm and will feature additional readings from local poets (click here for a map). Information about the project for 2013 and the submissions process for the next anthology will be available on the launch date and thereafter on the CAP website. The Golden Thread Gallery will be launching two exhibitions earlier the same evening and we would thoroughly encourage you to attend the exhibition launches at 6pm and stay on for the poetry afterwards. (More information about the exhibitions can be found at www.goldenthreadgallery.co.uk.
The event is free of charge. However, as space is limited, please RSVP to chelley@capartscentre.com if you intend to attend. Mark your email PIM launch.
The free workshop with Tony takes place at 3pm on Thursday 2nd May at Community Arts Partnership and is now FULLY BOOKED due to popularity. This is a rare opportunity to receive guidance from one of the masters of contemporary performance poetry.
