After an initial “getting to know you” session the eager group of children from Ballymac Friendship Trust decided to create a textile piece that would map out the surrounding geographical area.
Lead by CAP artist Grainne Keilty, they begin by felting patches of colour that they might use in the composition.
After felting patches in colours, they looked at images of shops and buildings in the area. They talked about the types of homes that they live in, local shops and play areas and even where we go to learn! They created images of these buildings and put them in sequence… this is the Newtownards Road!!
Next steps…After much debating, the group has decided what buildings and background they needed in their artwork and then it’s all systems go. Sewing and patching the colours together to make images that they all recognize as home. So far, they have super “stitchers”, fabulous “felters” and the future is definitely bright!!
