‘All Names Known’ – Memorial for the Public Baby Plot AGREED

Following the statement made by the Memorial for the Public Baby Plot at Belfast City Cemetery which was issued on Friday, CAP echoes the delight and pleasure to share that Belfast City Council has agreed to support a memorial piece for the Public Baby Plot in Belfast City Cemetery.

In response to the request from Agnes Close and the Tender from BCC, CAP carried out a creative public consultation called “All Names Known” which involved 300+ people and a core group of 15 who commented, contributed their ideas and created artwork influenced by the theme of remembering those who are buried in this plot.

We are grateful to Council for allowing this consultation to take place, despite its sensitivities and allowing a creative approach to bring dignity and grace to an emotive issue which has in many cases, been hidden. Agreeing to support the memorial is tremendous news for CAP and those involved in the experience, as this work and acknowledgment is very dear to all of our hearts.

We hope we can be involved in further stages of this process but for now, embracing the positive decision. CAP will also share information about the next steps, once these have been determined.

Congratulations Agnes Close and everyone who contributed to this process.

Carole Kane, project coordinator.
