The group from Olympia Youth Centre is facing some changes in the building where they usually meet, so with this transition in mind, they have been working on a two tiered project.
In the first phase, they made artefacts that capture the theme of ‘here and now’, ‘past reflections’ and ‘personal emotions’, by using creative writing, pictures, hand printed banners and toys/crafts of the present. These items will then go into a time capsule.
The second phase is a piece of artwork that will be placed above ground, with similar elements, plus a strong environmental element and symbolic circle of life. This work is comprised of four metal shapes including trees, entwined with metal and wire, that is embellished with beads and coloured glass. This artwork will be mounted on a brightly painted wooden board.
The young people had lots of fun on the project and they gave very lively contributions at each session. There is still some work to be done on the completion of the work for the time capsules. The group also hope to work with the older group who attend the centre.
