On the 19th of March CAP launched Matter, the Poetry in Motion Community 2016-17 anthology, at Seamus Heaney’s Homeplace in Bellaghy. The event also included the announcement of the winner and runners-up of the Seamus Heaney Award for New Writing 2017.
Glen Wilson went on to win the award with his poem The Lotus Gait. The runner-up, as selected by the award’s three judges (Frank Ormsby, Moyra Donaldsone and Maire-Louise Muir), was Matthew Rice for his poem Turtle and a commendation went to Emma McKervey for her poems, Aleph to Taf and Laundry
The rest of the shortlisted poems were The Day of the Buckets by Clare McWilliams, If not El Niño, what? by Clodagh Harvey and Ross Thompson’s The Daily Crossword.
