Landmarks artist, Clare Mc Comish led an enthusiastic group of men from North Belfast Mens Shed in a wonderfully interactive mosaic project during the months of November and early December, creating individually designed mosaic plaques. Each participant learnt the intricate skill of mosaic making from design, layout and tile cutting to adhering the tiles and grouting the finished pieces ready for display. You have to agree they really did an outstanding job!
The group embraced the opportunity to work with Claire during this project and really felt that they needed to work face to face, particularly after coming out of considerable isolation over the past 18 months. Thankfully with the group leader, Seaneen O Reilly’s help, they were in a position to pursue this but not before following strict guidelines and risk assessments on participant numbers, appropriate allocation of space, good ventilation and personal responsibility in keeping themselves and the artist safe.
This was a wonderful project for all involved, no doubt North Belfast Mens Shed will be creating many more mosaic artworks in the near future.
