Bruce House hosted another Side By Side project in their nursing home over this past season of CAP projects. The pandemic meant that their Artist/facilitator Carole Kane could not physically attend the sessions, so instead, she created videos for Emma Ward, Activity Coordinator at Bruce House. Emma used the videos to share ideas and techniques with the participants and she assisted them practically through their creative expressions.
The general theme was to create canvases that outlined what stood out about Belfast in the memories of the participants. Due to some physical and ability challenges everyone was allowed to think back to special days in the past and sights that they remembered. The outcomes were two-fold: not only did they collate images of old Belfast but participants also told the stories of how much their city means so much to them.
Many of the group and staff contracted Covid during the run of this project and they sadly lost a member due to another illness. Away from Covid restrictions and lockdowns, this creative response allowed an alternative activity for the group to focus on, the chance to work with colour and a reason to remember back to fond days of the past.
A big shout out to the members of Bruce House for their participation and artwork.
