Anna O’Kane facilitated a discussion and site visit to a garden, the group members took photographs and drew up a plan of what artwork they would like to make. Anna showed examples of previous projects, and they decided to make a bird bath and a sign for their newly constructed “Haven of Hope” community garden. When designing the artwork, they discussed what makes them happy in a garden, which was colourful flowers, watching the insects, birds and small creatures merrily going about their business as if they didn’t have a care in the world. They drew a list from that conversation of some of the images to be included in the mosaic: flowers, birds, frogs, bees, butterflies, dragonflies, spiders, then with nippers to the ready we started creating their piece in Mosaic techniques.
