The Monthly talks to Paul Archer about his exhibition with his father, artist Campbell Archer

How did the idea for a joint exhibition come about and how did you go about organising the exhibition in the Castle Espie Wetlands Gallery?

I had been saying over and over to my father that his beautiful master works needed to be seen and my father had been encouraging me to begin my journey into visual art and this culminated in the current paintings on display at our exhibition.

My father had been up at Castle Espie and noticed that they put on art exhibitions and upon further negotiations and enquiries we decided to exhibit our works as father & son together as we often painted together in the same studio at the same time.

The good folks at Castle Espie were enthusiastic and helpful in allowing us both to exhibit and we were also able to have an initial launch reception day on 2nd March 2024 at which my brother Iain Archer and his wife Miriam and children Eden & Reuben performed some beautiful pieces of music and I played a couple of my own compositions also.

We were delighted, encouraged and honoured that over one hundred kind folks came along to share in the opening of the exhibition.

Are there plans to show the exhibition at another venue?

We are currently very keen to exhibit at other venues and are currently looking into this, so we hope that we can show the exhibition again soon.
